The Chevrolet Silverado’s Steel Bed Proves to be More Durable than Ford’s Aluminum Bed

Chevrolet Silverado's Steel Bed

According to a Chevrolet press release, the Chevrolet Silverado’s steel bed proved to be more durable than Ford’s aluminum bed.

There’s been a lot of talk around town recently about the new aluminum body structure of the Ford F-150. Ford has not been shy about sharing details about this new design. However, it may surprise drivers to learn that Ford’s aluminum body may not be all it’s cracked up to be.

According to a Chevrolet press release, the Chevrolet Silverado’s steel bed proved to be more durable than Ford’s aluminum bed.

When put to the test, the high-strength steel bed of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado withstood 90 joules of impact energy without showing any signs of damage. When the Ford F-150 and its aluminum bed underwent the test, it cracked after only experiencing 40 joules of energy!

“Obviously, any material can be pushed to the breaking point if you subject it to enough impact energy,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet truck marketing director. “If a customer does manage to puncture the high-strength steel bed of the Silverado, they have the added peace of mind knowing steel tends to be easier to repair than aluminum — potentially saving money and minimizing time without their truck.”

Other brands can claim to have the toughest truck in the industry. However, there is only one truck that is truly the toughest: the Chevy Silverado!

All-Star Game MVP Mike Trout Wins a Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition

All-Star Game MVP Mike Trout Wins a Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition

When asked to decide between the all-new sixth-gen 2016 Camaro and a limited edition Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition, Mike Trout chose the pickup truck.

At this year’s midsummer classic in Cincinnati, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim centerfielder Mike Trout became the first MLB player to win back-to-back All-Star Game MVP Awards. As such, he’s also the first baseball player to win back-to-back free Chevy vehicles for being named MVP. Some guys have all the luck, huh?

Last year, when given the choice, Trout enthusiastically chose a new Corvette over a new Silverado. At this year’s All-Star Game, when asked to decide between the all-new sixth-gen 2016 Camaro and a limited edition Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition, Trout went with the pickup truck. Perhaps he figures he has enough sports cars now, and wants something for hauling all of his trophies around—or maybe he just loves the cool all-black paint job.

“Mike’s on-field performance was All-Star caliber and worthy of one of Chevrolet’s All-Stars,” said Chevrolet US vice president Brian Sweeney. “Chevrolet also encourages future All-Stars through our more than 1,500 dealers who support Chevy Youth Baseball.”

In the past ten years, the Chevy Youth Baseball program has raised over $18 million to support local youth teams, involving over 5.2 million kids across America. No doubt, millions of those kids dream of growing up to be like Mike Trout—elite, idolized, wealthy, and the proud recipient of a free Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition pickup truck.

2015 Corvette and Silverado Atop Comerica Park Fountain This Baseball Season

For the past six years, the Chevrolet brand has sponsored the home run fountain above the outfield in Comerica Park in Detroit. It’s the perfect sponsorship for the Detroit Tigers, the baseball team of the Motor City. This year, models of both the 2015 Corvette and Silverado sit atop the fountain, which goes off with water displays and tiger growls after each Detroit home run.

The specific models on display are a Velocity Yellow Corvette Z06 and a Midnight Edition Silverado, both of which were placed on the fountain by a crane. The process of installing each car via crane took about three hours. “As the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball, what better way could Chevrolet show our love of the game than by giving our vehicles a bird’s eye view of our hometown team?” asked Paul Edwards, vice president, Chevrolet marketing. “We like to think of these vehicles as the Chevrolet cheering section to drive those centerfield home runs.”

If these Comerica Park vehicles spark your interest, you might want to check out the new 2015 Silverado Custom Sport HD truck versions. These new trims, which debuted at the Denver Auto Show, give customers a new monochromatic look to consider when it comes to the Silverado. Chevy says they’re getting back to the basics with the all new Silverado Custom model. The latest in a string of new pickups, the Custom is focused on giving drivers dependability and capability they need for years of hard work.

2015 Silverado Custom Features

According to Chevy, the new pickup is based on the Silverado LS double-cab; however, it adds a few more premium options. The 2015 Silverado Custom features include 20-inch aluminum wheels, exterior chrome trim, a body-colored cap, and more. Chevy MyLink and 4G LTE Wi-Fi are also available on the new truck.

“The economic recovery has led to booming sales of high-end pickups like the Silverado High Country,” said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks. “But there are also millions of customers in the heart of the market who want a great looking, well-equipped truck at an affordable price. The Silverado Custom is a truck they can be proud to own and proud to drive.”

Focusing on capability and dependability, the new Silverado comes with a 5.3-liter EcoTec V8 with 355 hp and best-in-class fuel economy. Not only that, but a hydro-formed, boxed, high-strength steel frame and cab structure also make the rugged pickup virtually unstoppable. If you’re looking for a new workhorse, the Custom is for you.

New Chevrolet Engines Push the Silverado to New Performance Levels

New Chevrolet Engines for the Silverado

2015 Chevrolet Silverado

If you are a fan of Chevrolet and pickup trucks, the 2015 model year will be an exciting one for you—since there are three new Chevrolet engines being put to use in the new Silverado model. The new engines are all EcoTec3 equipped engines, giving them an unprecedented mixture of capability and efficiency, especially for trucks the size of the Silverado.

New Chevrolet Engines in the factory“The latest Small Block engines are ideally suited to Silverado and to the tough jobs that pickup customers do every day,” said Jordan Lee, global chief engineer and program manager for Small Block engines. “We give customers the power and torque of a full-size truck engine when they need it, then use Active Fuel Management and other advanced technologies to seamlessly shift to four-cylinder operation when the truck is under light loads, making the most of fuel efficiency.”

The three engines are a 4.3-liter V6, a 5.3-liter V8, and a 6.2-liter V8. The smallest engine gets 285 horsepower, 305 lb-ft of torque and 24 mpg highway; the middle one gets 355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft. of torque, and 23 mpg highway; and the largest engine gets the crazy numbers of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque with a still-impressive 21 mpg highway. Come see us at Tom Naquin Chevrolet today to find the perfect Silverado—and the perfect Silverado engine—for you.

Chevrolet Silverado Gets Updates for 2015

Chevrolet SilveradoThe full-size pickup market is one of the most competitive segments in the automotive industry. You have to stand above the crowd in order to get noticed. That is why the Chevrolet Silverado will be getting some great updates for the 2015 model year.

According to The Detroit News, the Silverado will get some visual enhancements along with new technology. One strong possibility is a new transmission that will likely offer more than the current six gears. This would help improve the Silverado’s fuel efficiency along with a possible start-stop system.

In speaking with The Detroit News, GM’s executive chief engineer, Jeff Luke, said, “You’ll see these kinds of technologies over the next few years, a whole array of neat, new technologies, some focused on fuel economy, some focused on capability.”

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado is due out later this year, so we’ll be on the lookout for more specific details as they become available.

Chevrolet Silverado Named Pickup Truck of the Year

Pickup Truck of the YearAdd another award to the list of accolades earned by the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. Not only did the Silverado recently earn the North American Truck/Utility of the Year award, but it was also recently named the Pickup Truck of the Year by Four Wheeler Magazine.

In a series of on- and off-road tests performed by the magazine, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was able to beat out the 2014 Toyota Tundra and the 2014 Ram 2500 for the award. The Silverado was able to come out on top thanks in part to its smooth ride and “top notch” fit-and-finish. This would have been the third straight year that Ram won had it not been for the Silverado.

“Four Wheeler really puts pickups to the test, on road and off, and the results showcase the capability and refinement that our team built into the new Silverado,” said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer, in a press release.

Chevrolet Amps up the Silverado with Performance Cheyenne

At the recent SEMA Show in Las Vegas, everyone got a good look at Chevrolet’s new Silverado Cheyenne high-performance concept truck. This small truck shares the same engine as the 2014 Corvette Stingray, uses some of the same parts as the Camaro Z/28, and has even more enhancements for improved handling.

The engine is the 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower, and its Z/28-shared parts include the wheels, tires, and carbon ceramic brakes. This is definitely not a truck for hauling bales of hay. Chevrolet even gave it a lowered suspension, a rear stabilizer bar, and a Borla exhaust to make it truly track-ready.

To make sure the Cheyenne wasn’t carrying any unnecessary weight, engineers used carbon fiber for the bumpers, cargo box, and tailgate. It also uses only a standard-sized cabin and the small bed size Chevrolet offers.

Best of all, according to Autoblog, the Cheyenne concept may actually make it to production!
