50th Anniversary Camaro SS

A new version of the 2017 Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition will hit the track for the Indianapolis 500, serving as the pace car for this iconic race.

A new version of the 2017 Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition will hit the track for the Indianapolis 500, serving as the pace car for this iconic race. Driven by motorsports legend Roger Penske, the 50th Anniversary Camaro SS is designed to show how far the muscle car has come.

This will be the ninth time the Camaro has served as a pace car for the Indianapolis 500, and the 27th time for Chevrolet. The Camaro SS has 455 units of raw horsepower, making it one of the few pace cars to require no additional performance modifications.

“Chevrolet and the Indianapolis 500 have a long, storied history and it’s an honor to mark the respective milestones of the Indy 500 race and the Camaro simultaneously,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president of Global Product Development and Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “It’s also a privilege to have Roger Penske perform the driving duties, as his team has helped Chevrolet earn four consecutive IndyCar manufacturer titles since 2012.”

The Camaro will feature 20-inch 50th Anniversary Wheels, a unique grille and chrome accents, a body-color front splitter, orange brake calipers, a black leather and suede interior, and truly one of a kind 50th Anniversary badging.

An Animated Chevrolet Camaro Debuts in the Movie, Turbo

You may be aware that an animated film called Turbo will begin to play in theaters on July 17, 2013.

What you may not know, however, is that Chevrolet has played a significant role in this DreamWorks film.

That’s right.

Chevrolet is embracing a whole new perspective on product placement.

Intertwined within the story of a snail that acquires super-speed power and competes in the Indianapolis 500 is an animated Chevrolet Camaro co-designed by Chevrolet.

Chevrolet took it one step further in the creation of a real-life replica of the Camaro. The 700-horsepower of the turbocharged ZL1 has propelled the Camaro around to various auto shows and, even, stopped long enough to make an appearance at The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, the Indianapolis 500 itself.

Also at the Indy 500 as an honorary starter was Michael Pena who is the voice of Tito, the entrepreneur that enters Turbo into the race.

Chevrolet Panther Racing Townsend Bell sported Turbo on his number 60 Indy car as well.

The automaker also helped with the design of the animated Chevrolet-powered Indy cars that flash the Chevrolet bowtie across the screen as they race around Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

And, three-time Indy 500 champion Dario Franchitti offered his first-hand experience in developing the simulation of racing around the track.

Tom Naquin of Elkhart Indiana is excited for the July 17 debut of the Chevrolet-inspired animated film, Turbo.

Chevrolet Races Well in Indy 500

Thirty-three cars raced 200 laps around the 2.5-mile track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 97th Running of the Indy 500 on Sunday.

The Laguna Blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Pace Car was not the only Chevrolet to lead the race that day.

In fact, the top four finishers were none other than Chevrolets.

Not to mention, Chevrolets accounted for seven of the top ten finishers.

Quite impressive considering the lead changed a record-breaking 68 times.

Racing through the finish line first with his first ever Indy 500 win was Tony Kanaan.

Following close behind Kanaan in second place was Carlos Munoz.

Placing in third and fourth were Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti, respectively.

Helio Castroneves and AJ Allmendinger finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

And, accounting for the seventh of ten top finishers was Ed Carpenter in tenth place.

Located in Elkhart Indiana, Tom Naquin is delighted with the Chevrolet showing at one of its biggest state events, the Indy 500.
