Rob Dyrdek Soars to World Record

Former professional skateboarder and star of MTV’s “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory,” Rob Dyrdek, is no stranger to pulling off stunts in the Chevrolet Sonic. In 2011, he and Chevrolet teamed up to perform the first-ever successful 360-degree kick-flip off a ramp in a Sonic. The team is back at it again, this time breaking a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® record.

Dyrdek set the record for the Farthest Reverse Ramp Jump by a Car in history, with a total distance traveled of 89 feet 3¼ inches. You can see the historic feat in the following video.

Throughout his career, Dyrdek owns, or has broken, more than 20 records, many of those being skateboarding related. To set this world record, Dyrdek could think of no better vehicle to use than the Chevy Sonic.

“The Sonic is a great car for firsts,” said Dyrdek, in a press release. “I have always been a Chevy guy, so when we decided we wanted to set a Guinness World Record for the finale of “Fantasy Factory,” using the Sonic again just made sense.”

We at Tom Naquin Chevrolet don’t advise jumping it off a ramp, but you can still visit us to test drive the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic.

Advanced-Safety Features Help 2014 Chevrolet Sonic Earn 5-Star Safety Rating

If you are like most people, knowing that a vehicle has earned a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety brings a sense of relief. As a buyer it makes you feel comfortable knowing that you are getting a vehicle that has proved to be safe throughout many rigorous tests. The 2014 Chevrolet Sonic is one such vehicle that adds that sense of relief as it has recently earned a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Customer safety is our top priority,” said Dongseok Kim, General Motors Korea managing director of safety, regulations and product investigations. “Advanced safety technologies enable customers to feel confident when buying a small car like the Chevy Sonic.”

Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and a rear-vision camera are just some of the advanced-safety features included on the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic.

When it is active, Forward Collision Alert will warn a driver if they are approaching another vehicle too quickly. The rear-vision camera gives a clear view of objects behind the vehicle. Lastly, Lane Departure Warning lets the driver know when the vehicle has veered from the lane they are in.

The 5-star safety rating that the 2014 Sonic has earned is quite the accomplishment, especially since it is the only car in its class to receive such a rating.

Chevrolet at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards took place a little over a week ago on April 14.

Rebel Wilson hosted the show and Bradley Cooper won Best Male Performance.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Joaquin Palma won the Chevrolet and MTV “First Look” Contest that turned his short film idea into a reality as it aired on the big screen at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards pre-show.

On a quest for the next generation of filmmakers, Chevrolet and MTV challenged aspiring directors, screenwriters, actors and producers to film their ways to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards by finding inspiration in the Chevrolet Sonic to craft “the most innovative story about daring souls who never settle for yesterday, possess a can do spirit and remind us that ‘ingenuity can do the impossible.’”

The winner would receive roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations to MTV’s Sneak Peek Week and the 2013 MTV Movie Awards for two to co-produce and view the short film at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards pre-show.

“Never Let You Go,” created by the Bronx New York native, brought Palma to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.

And this is what he had to say:

When I read over the contest page, it asked for a character with a can-do spirit who never settles for less. My character is pretty much like that. He’s a scientist that uses innovative and genius ways to save the woman he loves. So he’s essentially finding a new road to saving her, and I thought that just tied in beautifully. I had the ideas beforehand, but I didn’t really know what way to tie them together, so the concept of Find New Roads really helped.

Tom Naquin of Elkhart Indiana enjoyed the finished product.

The Chevrolet Cruze, Sonic and Volt: Small, but Safe

After receiving Five-Star Overall Vehicle Scores for Safety and named 2012 Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Chevrolet Cruze and the Chevrolet Volt have made Forbes’ List of Ten Safest Small Cars.

Oh, and go ahead and add the Chevrolet Sonic to the list as well.

All three Chevys come standard with OnStar –the first six months for the Cruze and Sonic and the first three years for the Volt.

The OnStar system in all three vehicles includes Automatic Crash Response, a feature with the ability to connect to a specially-trained Emergency Advisor upon impact, automatically request emergency responders to a precise GPS location and, even, transmit important crash data like rollover status or maximum velocity at impact.

The Cruze, Sonic and Volt also feature frontal-side impact airbags as well as front knee air bags for the driver and front passenger.

The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car with a crush resistance roof, a high-strength steel safety cage, Rear Park Assist and ten standard airbags. Now that is compact.

And, the Chevrolet Sonic – it is the first and only subcompact car to feature ten standard airbags.

Known for its efficiency and innovation, the Chevrolet Volt features eight standard airbags, including head and curtain side-impact airbags for outboard front and rear passengers.

There is nothing to fear when it comes to the Cruze, Sonic and Volt.
