Getting Your Car Ready for Fall

Car Ready for Fall

Now that we’ve hit late September it’s time to start getting your car ready for fall, so be sure to follow these useful tips.

Even though cold weather hasn’t even made an appearance yet, now that we’ve hit late September it’s time to start talking about fall car maintenance. There are plenty of easy things you can do to get your car ready for fall, so follow these tips.

Fall is a time for replacing things so you don’t have to do it in the winter. Basically, fall car maintenance is pre-winter maintenance. Replace your windshield wipers, for instance, because you’ll want them in the best shape possible for all the heavy snow and ice they’ll be dealing with this winter.

You should also get an oil change if it’s been more than a couple of months since your last one. Going into winter with fresh oil is a good idea, since the oil is an important part of keeping your engine lubricated and not freezing in the cold.

Check your brakes and tires. Tire pressure will start to drop the colder it gets, so check it every couple of weeks and add air as needed. Brakes, too, are especially important in winter, since it’s harder to stop on slick roads, so have your brake pads replaced if you notice they’re very thin. If you notice any kind of strange noises or behavior from your car, get it inspected now.

It’s been a while since you’ve used the heater, so make sure the heater and defrost still work. Check the fluids, have the battery tested, and check under the hood for cracks or leaks. You don’t want to go into winter with parts that are leaking fluids. Obviously, proper fluid levels are important year-round, but never more so than in freezing cold winters.

Greg Fink, the General Manager here at Tom Naquin Nissan Chevrolet Cadillac, is supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana in South Bend Hospital this year. As one of the Men in Kilts, Greg is wearing a kilt to raise awareness and money for the issues facing the community.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana, or RMHC, help thousands of families by offering meals, showers, and other things they need while their children are receiving treatment at Memorial Children’s Hospital. RMHC was able to do this for more than 2,000 families at least 20,000 times in 2015. This was done thanks to funding received from the community and also from money raised by charity initiatives like the Men in Kilts.

Support the RMHC and Greg by casting a vote for him through a donation! Every dollar counts as one vote for the person you choose, and it all goes to a great cause. The person with the highest number of votes will be crowned the victor at the annual McDazzle Gala on September 29th. You don’t have much more time to vote, so do it soon!

We’re so proud of Greg for supporting his community by bravely wearing his kilt in order to raise awareness for RMHC.
