Chevrolet Silverado Gets Updates for 2015

Chevrolet SilveradoThe full-size pickup market is one of the most competitive segments in the automotive industry. You have to stand above the crowd in order to get noticed. That is why the Chevrolet Silverado will be getting some great updates for the 2015 model year.

According to The Detroit News, the Silverado will get some visual enhancements along with new technology. One strong possibility is a new transmission that will likely offer more than the current six gears. This would help improve the Silverado’s fuel efficiency along with a possible start-stop system.

In speaking with The Detroit News, GM’s executive chief engineer, Jeff Luke, said, “You’ll see these kinds of technologies over the next few years, a whole array of neat, new technologies, some focused on fuel economy, some focused on capability.”

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado is due out later this year, so we’ll be on the lookout for more specific details as they become available.

Chevrolet Amps up the Silverado with Performance Cheyenne

At the recent SEMA Show in Las Vegas, everyone got a good look at Chevrolet’s new Silverado Cheyenne high-performance concept truck. This small truck shares the same engine as the 2014 Corvette Stingray, uses some of the same parts as the Camaro Z/28, and has even more enhancements for improved handling.

The engine is the 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower, and its Z/28-shared parts include the wheels, tires, and carbon ceramic brakes. This is definitely not a truck for hauling bales of hay. Chevrolet even gave it a lowered suspension, a rear stabilizer bar, and a Borla exhaust to make it truly track-ready.

To make sure the Cheyenne wasn’t carrying any unnecessary weight, engineers used carbon fiber for the bumpers, cargo box, and tailgate. It also uses only a standard-sized cabin and the small bed size Chevrolet offers.

Best of all, according to Autoblog, the Cheyenne concept may actually make it to production!

Chevrolet Offers Seven Models with 5-Star Overall Vehicle Scores for Safety

Chevrolet offers seven 2014 model year vehicles that have earned a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That’s more than any other automotive brand can claim.

The seven vehicles to earn a 5-Star Overall Score in the NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program were the Chevrolet Sonic, Cruze, Volt, Impala, Traverse, Camaro Coupe, and the Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. Even more impressive is the fact that the Sonic is the first and only car in the subcompact class to earn a 5-Star Overall Score.

GM research found that safety ranks in the top 10 reasons for purchasing a certain vehicle, so they make sure to put an emphasis on it.

“We design safety and crashworthiness into our vehicles very early in development,” said Gay Kent, GM’s general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “We are committed to offering advanced safety technologies on a broad range of models, not just on the most expensive vehicles. All of our vehicles are designed to provide continuous protection for customers before, during and after a crash.”
