If you enjoy performance driving, then you will like the latest news from Chevrolet. The automaker has announced that the 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray will offer a brand-new eight-speed automatic transmission that will be designed specifically for performance driving.

(The 2014 model recently won the North American Car of the Year!)

Bill Goodrich, an assistant chief engineer for automatic transmissions at General Motors, says, “It was designed to enhance the Stingray’s driving experience, with performance on par with dual-clutch designs, but without sacrificing refinement.”

The new eight-speed automatic is designed to be paired with the Stingray’s 6.2-liter V8 engine. Chevrolet predicts a 5% increase in fuel economy with the new transmission, as it is eight pounds lighter than the six-speed transmission it replaces.

Offering paddle shifters and full manual control over gear changes, the eight-speed automatic should be able to complete wide-open-throttle upshifts up to 8/100ths of a second quicker than the new Porsche 911 Carrera’s gearbox.

While you eagerly await the new 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray and its eight-speed transmission, why not stop by Tom Naquin Chevrolet today to test drive the six-speed version?

2014 NACTOY Finalists Announced

Tom Naquin Chevrolet is excited to share that the finalists for the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards have been announced. Even more exciting is the fact that two of the finalists for this year’s NACTOY awards are Chevrolets.

There are three finalists up for 2014 North American Car of the Year, including the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. There are also three finalists up for 2014 North American Truck/Utility of the Year, with the Chevrolet Silverado being the Chevy representative.

The vehicles that are eligible for this award must be “all new” or “substantially changed.”

Innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar are all factors taken into consideration when determining the most outstanding vehicles of the year. The Corvette Stingray and Silverado were each selected as finalists out of 12 vehicles in each of their respective categories.

We would like to congratulate the 2014 NACTOY finalists. Do you think the Corvette Stingray and the Silverado will be winners of these awards?

Road & Track Names 2013 Performance Car of the Year

Recently, 13 new and updated performance cars were pitted against one another in the first annual Road & Track Performance Car of the Year test. After much deliberation on the track, the top six vehicles were then moved on to a road test before the 2013 Performance Car of the Year was finally named.

The list of cars that were part of the comparison test include: Audi R8 V10 Plus; BMW 435i; BMW M6 Competition Package; Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51; Ferrari F12 Berlinetta; Ford Fiesta ST; Jaguar F-Type V8 S; Jaguar XFR-S; Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model Wagon; Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series; Mini John Cooper Works GP; Nissan GT-R Track Edition; and Porsche Cayman S.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Chevrolet has been taunting us with teaser videos for the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

And, for good reason.

After its private global debut this past Sunday at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit and its reveal at the 2013 North American International Auto Show yesterday, the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is something very special.

How special?

Well, of its sixty-year history, the Chevrolet Corvette has only touted the name “Stingray” for two other generations.

The Chevrolet Corvette was called a Stingray for the first time in 1959 on its racing car.

The second-generation Corvette was actually called a Sting Ray from 1963 to 1967.

And, the third-generation Corvette Stingray had a long run from 1968 to 1982.

Four generations and thirty-one years later, the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, or the C7, features only two parts from its predecessor.

With a 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 450-horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque and propels the machine from zero to 60 in under four seconds, the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the most fuel-efficient, most powerful, and quickest standard model ever.

The Stingray namesake marks special generations only.

And, the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is most certainly something special.

Your local Elkhart Indiana dealership, Tom Naquin, anxiously anticipates the all-new Stingray to arrive on its lots.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette

The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will be unveiled in Detroit Michigan this Sunday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

We don’t know much about the new generation Chevrolet Corvette as it has been kept under extremely tight wraps.

What we do know, though, is that “every gram has to earn its way onto the car.”
