Chevy stepped outside of the box when it aired its Super Bowl commercial, “Blackout,” tricking audiences nation-wide into believing their TVs had died. While it may not have been the most popular choice (just check out Twitter right around 6:30 pm on the night of the Super Bowl), it got the point across in a memorable way.

Chevy’s Super Bowl ad begins with an aerial view of the stadium and a convincing voice over. Viewers are meant to think the game is beginning…when the picture suddenly breaks up and goes black. After a few heart-stopping moments, the commercial resumes, posing the question, “What would you do if your TV went out?”
The commercial concludes with an upbeat, exciting ad for the Chevrolet Colorado (which conveniently features 4G LTE Wi-Fi). The message is clear: there’s no need to be caught without reliable internet connection, ever.
